Biography

Phoebe Nyx is Charlotte's resident Amazon with a soulful contralto and a wicked sense of humor. On the stage, you’ll frequently see her with Elphaba, her lime green, rhinestoned ukulele, belting out a range of music from Tin Pan Alley standards to classic rock to parodies, femceeing the evening, or dancing to her heart's content all over the southeast, including the House of Blues!  This Chartreuse Chanteuse is a redheaded bombshell with legs for days, published pinup, Ms All American Pin-Up 2019, Heavy Rebel Weekender's Wiggle Room Princess 2020, and winner of the Slow Burn at Discordia Days Burlesque Festival.

In addition to her time performing for the burlesque audience, Phoebe is an avid costumer, cosplayer, character performer, folk singer, classically-trained cellist, RenFaire cast member, vintage enthusiast, pin-up, and all-around geek.

I've been singing, performing, and playing music for nearly 30 years, and being on stage is my passion.

I saw my first burlesque show in 2013, sitting in the front row at the Visulite Theatre...I'd dressed for the theme (I was in the colors of the Italian flag), and was hooked from the first moments of the show.  From that moment on, I attended as many shows as I could!

I picked up the ukulele in June 2015 after looking for a way to accompany myself while singing.  Elphaba, my uke, has been my constant companion since then!  I fell in love with her bright sound.  First song I learned on her was my personal anthem: Amanda Palmer's "Sing."

The troupe posted an audition notice, looking for new performers and stage kittens, and I was excited to find a way to be part of this incredible show.  I'd hoped to kitten, but the producer encouraged me to bring Elphie with me, as well.  I wrote a parody of "The House of the Rising Sun" specifically for the audition, and nervously stood in front of a panel of women I'd admired for so long.  I sang it, and the rest is history.

I opened the August show ("Film Strip") with my parody, changed into something less flashy, and set to kitten duties.  Two weeks later, I was with my glitter tribe on the main stage at Charlotte Pride singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World."

I love my Sparkle Siblings more than they could ever know.  They, and this little ukulele of mine, have changed my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
